On 8 May 2026, the International Collective Redress Conference organised by the UK Bar Council took place in London, bringing together leading judges, practitioners, academics, economists, and institutional actors specialising in collective litigation and mass tort proceedings across Europe and the UK.
Several prominent experts and members of the international collective redress community participated in discussions covering key developments in collective proceedings, including the implementation of the EU Representative Actions Directive, opt-in and opt-out mechanisms, litigation funding, damages quantification, case management, and settlement distribution.
Maria Jose Azar-Baud, founder of the Observatory of Class Actions, participated as a speaker in a comparative panel examining the evolving relationship between EU collective redress mechanisms and the UK class action framework following Brexit.
The conference reflected the growing importance of cross-border dialogue and cooperation in shaping effective collective redress systems and improving access to justice across jurisdictions.
